MD ADMISSION

Medical students who would like to live on-campus are guaranteed a housing option through the Office of Residential Life in the Graduate Residence Hall.  Living in this apartment-style option provides medical students with a convenient housing option for the First 100 Weeks, close to the medical school and on-campus services. Each year, about ten percent of first year medical students chose this option.

The majority of medical school students live off campus. Living off campus provides students an opportunity to use resources outlined by Hofstra’s Commuting Student Services and Community Outreach Office. Medical students have found that the opportunity to live off campus provides a cost-effective, autonomous living option. Current medical students often help prospective students search for housing options, through an open housing list managed by Student Council.

Housing locations vary for medical students based on personal preference.  Many students chose to live within a 10-15-minute drive to the medical school. Others live locally with a loved one or family member. Some students chose to taken advantage of the school’s proximity to New York City and live in Queens, Brooklyn or Manhattan. Many medical students move closer to Northwell Health sites in the Second 100 Weeks as they enter full-time clinical years. Whatever a student chooses, there are multiple options available.
