For some, becoming a physician isn’t enough. They want to understand disease at its source — and to do the research that changes how it’s treated. It’s a different kind of calling, one that defines the physician-scientist. The MD/PhD program at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell trains exactly that — conscientious and inquisitive physicians, and courageous and rigorous scientists.

Students earn a PhD in The Molecular Basis of Medicine, with a focus on biomedical, translational, and clinical research that connects laboratory findings directly to clinical practice.

Research is conducted at two world-class institutions — the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory — giving students the resources and mentorship to make meaningful contributions to medicine from the start.
