Program Director
Welcome from the Program
We are pleased you are considering the MD/PhD program at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. Choosing where to train as a physician-scientist plays a critical role in your long-term success and career satisfaction.
Our integrated MD/PhD curriculum is designed to develop thoughtful, inquisitive physicians and rigorous, innovative scientists. The preclinical phase emphasizes problem solving, critical thinking, and evidence-based medicine, with early clinical exposure beginning on day one.
During the research phase, students engage in a range of learning formats, including advanced coursework, small group collaboration, and specialized training programs offered by leading professional organizations. The curriculum fosters lifelong learning and highlights the essential role of physician-scientists in advancing human health.
Students have access to extensive research opportunities at the Feinstein Institutes and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, spanning fields such as molecular and cellular biology, bioelectronics, neuroscience, behavioral science, outcomes research, and stem cell biology. Our research environment is highly collaborative, prioritizing teamwork and interdisciplinary discovery.
We also encourage students to maintain connections to clinical medicine throughout their research years through both structured and individualized clinical experiences.
Our mission is to support each student’s growth as a physician-scientist—empowering them to apply knowledge, curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking to challenge assumptions and drive innovation in human physiology and disease. We are committed to preparing the next generation of leaders who will transform the future of medicine.
Best wishes,
