MD ADMISSION
General Information
The Zucker School of Medicine is located on Long Island, NY, just 25 miles from the excitement of New York City, and is easily accessible by car or Long Island Railroad. The University runs frequent shuttles to nearby Hempstead and Mineola train stations. The location offers proximity to shopping, restaurants, parks, golf courses, sporting arenas, Jones Beach, Long Beach, and the Hamptons.
Enrollment in each entering class is limited to 100 students.
Due to the unique design of the curriculum, transfer students are not accepted.
No preference is given to in-state applicants.
Joint degree programs are offered, including MD/PhD, MD/MPH, MD/MS, and MD/MBA. Additional time is required to complete these degrees.

Yes. The Summer Pre-Matriculation Program is sponsored by the Office of Engagement & Excellence and is a four-week course beginning at the end of June. It is open to all incoming ZSOM students. Inquiries may be directed to SOMEngagement@hofstra.edu.

Yes. The Zucker School of Medicine offers a 4+4 BS-BA/MD program with Hofstra University. Applicants must be admitted to Hofstra University as first-time, full-time freshmen. International students are not eligible.
Applicants invited to interview for this program will receive details about the virtual interview day, including resources related to the curriculum and student experience.
How to Apply
Applicants must:
- Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or hold DACA status
- Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited from an accredited U.S. or Canadian institution. International student visas cannot be sponsored.
Yes. Highly qualified applicants who consider ZSOM their first choice may apply through the Early Decision Program for the MD program only.
Applicants must submit a primary application through AMCAS.
All transcripts must be submitted to AMCAS as early as possible.
Early Decision
- AMCAS Application Deadline: August 1

Regular Decision
- AMCAS Application Deadline: November 1
- Secondary Application Deadline: December 1
Applicants are notified via email within two weeks of receipt of a verified AMCAS application.

Applications are not complete until both the AMCAS and secondary applications are submitted.
If an MCAT retake is indicated in AMCAS, application review will be delayed until the new score is received.

Additional letters not included in AMCAS should be emailed to medicine.admissions@hofstra.edu.
AP credits do not satisfy premedical course recommendations. CLEP credits are not accepted for recommended coursework.
- Community college coursework is accepted
- Online degrees are not accepted
- In-residence coursework is preferred
- Limited online coursework may be considered case-by-case
- Online coursework from spring and summer 2020 is recognized
Application Process
Yes. Rolling Admission are used, with offers typically extended from mid-December through mid-July.
Applicants receive access to the Admission Portal after submitting the secondary application, where they may:
- Check application status
- Confirm receipt of materials
- Upload updates or corrections
Applicants should not email updates directly to the Office of Admission.
Interview invitations are emailed from July through February. Invitations include details of the virtual interview day and additional educational resources.
Deferrals may be granted if the activity enhances preparation for medical school. Requests must be submitted in writing by May 1 prior to matriculation. Medical deferrals require documentation.
CASPer™
Applicants should visit the CASPer™ website for information on registration, fees, dates, and test preparation.
Applicants need:
- A computer with audio
- A webcam
- Reliable internet access
The test takes approximately 90–110 minutes and includes:
- Video response section (2 word-based and 4 video-based scenarios)
- Typed response section (3 word-based and 5 video-based scenarios)
- Video responses: two open-ended questions per scenario; one minute per response
- Typed responses: three questions per scenario; five minutes total
- Minor spelling errors are disregarded by raters
Applicants receive a quartile score for the typed response section only.
Scores are released to schools approximately 2–3 weeks after testing.
No feedback is provided for the video response section.
